Fresh Android Apps for Aug. 15: RealPlayer, Songza update, Quantro
In this edition of Fresh Android Apps, we show you the fully-operational all-in-one media player app from RealPlayer, reveal a supersized version of one of our favorite music discovery services, and call out a new game that is like Tetris on steroids.
Lets begin.
RealPlayer (Free)
While beta versions for this pioneering media player application have been available to Android users for some time, a fully-baked version of the application is available this week to Android owners.
Here is a glimpse of what to expect:
The biggest features of the app include the ability to consume music, videos and photos all in one place, playlists and voice commands for search. There are also premium RealPlay services that can be accessed for $4.99.
Check it out.
Songza update (Free)
While Pandora, Slacker and Spotify deservingly get a lot of media love (and downloads), one of our favorite music discovery applications and online services is Songza. The highly curated app includes a Music Concierge that does a very nice job promoting playlists based on time (Sunday morning mixes) and context (Lazy Summer).
A brand new Songza update optimized the app for tablet devices. Album artwork and other visual goodies can now be enjoyed in their proper dimensions as you enjoy your favorite tunes.
Quantro (Free)
Are you looking for a really challenging puzzle game that reminds you of the time you first picked up Tetris? Then Quantro is the game for you. The two games share a similar premise, challenging you to arrange falling blocks on top of the screen into neatly displayed rows. The extra challenge comes from the fact that you need to play two games simultaneously. Good luck with that! While Quantro provides a lot of entertainment without asking you to pay a dime, an ad-free version of the game can be downloaded as an in-app upgrade for $2.99.
