New Android Apps worth downloading: Camera ZOOM FX, Netflix, W.E.L.D.E.R.

Todays apps list is kicked off with a couple of big updates. Camera ZOOM FX adds a new user interface and lots of new features to its Android photography capabilities, while Netflix has been updated to fix up lag issues and add more countries to its fold. Finally, word game W.E.L.D.E.R. has popped over from the Apple camp to bring its brain-bending puzzle gameplay to Android.

Camera ZOOM FX ($2.99)

Camera ZOOM FXWhats it about? Camera ZOOM FX brings a number of camera features to your Android device, giving you the capability of taking more professional-quality photos with your smartphone or tablet. The app adds capabilities like optical zoom, multiple shooting modes such as burst and time lapse, and easy sharing capabilities.

Whats cool? Already considered among the best camera apps for Android, a big update to Camera ZOOM FX has brought in a bunch of new features. The user interface has been entirely reworked, and the app includes new elements that will make your photography better like a pinch to zoom feature, horizon and stability indicators, ISO controls and more.

Whos it for? Smartphone amateur photographers who are serious should check out Camera ZOOM FXs upgrades. If you like photography and want to do it on the cheap, this is a great set of features. It could also teach you a thing or two about how photography works beyond point-and-shoot.

Whats it like? Look for useful camera features in Vignette and FxCamera. Theres also the well-loved Instagram, which makes amateur photos look better, and try Action Snap to capture movement.

Netflix (Free)

NetflixWhats it about? Netflixs great mobile app makes it possible for subscribers to watch movies and TV shows on Android phones and tablets, streaming over a Wi-Fi connection or a cellular one.

Whats cool? The latest update to Netflix makes it available in more countries. Better than that, it should help with the experience with a number of Android devices. The update should help reduce lag on Netflix streaming, and devices running Android 2.2-2.4 are supported now, as well.

Whos it for? Netflix subscribers whove seen some troubles using the app on mobile devices, youll want to run the update and see if you get any improvement. Hopefully youll find the app will work a lot better now.

Whats it like? If youre a subscriber to other premium cable channels and services, you can get quite a bit of video on your Android devices. Crackle offers some movies for free, and Hulu will stream video from that service; theres also HBO Go for people who have HBO subscriptions.

W.E.L.D.E.R. ($2.99)

WELDERWhats it about? Part word search, part Boggle, W.E.L.D.E.R. has players swapping letters around a grid to make words. You only have a set number of swaps, however, so being careful is a winning strategy.

Whats cool? W.E.L.D.E.R. does a good job of making the word game genre a little fresher. Swapping letters to make words is key, but there are other elements at play as well, such as blank tiles that dont award points. Everything in the game is limited, so being smart is important to winning, and you cant just guess-and-check your way through the game. The more points you earn, the more swaps you get, so being frugal is the best way to score.

Whos it for? Word game fans will especially like W.E.L.D.E.R., but its casual enough that just about anyone can enjoy it. Its not for people who like to rush through similar titles, however being slow, smart and methodical about playing through W.E.L.D.E.R. is the best way to win.

Whats it like? Words With Friends and Scramble With Friends are fun multiplayer word games with similar ideas to W.E.L.D.E.R. Theres also Boggle Free, which has a lot of the same rules as W.E.L.D.E.R., but less complex.
