Pictoreo leads Android Apps of the Week

Weve got another great round-up of new and updated Android apps this week. Leading things off is Pictoreo which lets you create fun cinemagraphs from short videos you shoot with your Android device. Weve also got a cool way to quickly launch apps and settings, a new video portal from AOL, an app which is perfect for fresh parents, and an alternative to Googles navigation and mapping services which hit the market at the end of last week.

Pictoreo (Free)

Pictoreo offers a fun way to bring your photos to life as cinemagraphs (if you want to see some good examples, check these out). When you launch the app, its good to get some inspiration from the feed of Pictoreo users, then a quick tutorial shows you how things work. You need to shoot a short, steady video clip then paint motion with your finger on the screen. Its easy to share your creation once youre done, or embed it on a website. Its a fun app to try and may inspire some creativity.

Conjure ($1.99)

Conjure is a launcher of sorts, but in a different kind of way to things like Apex or Nova. Instead, it works alongside your existing setup and you can use it to open apps quickly, make calls, toggle important system settings like Wi-Fi and volume, and many other things. The app integrates nicely with Tasker, and its optimized for both tablets and smartphones. It also includes two handy home screen widgets. You may find Conjures universal search capabilities better than Googles in-built offering .

AOL On (Free)

AOL continues to reinvent itself and gather compelling content from a variety of respected sources. AOL On is a new video portal that helps you discover great videos from a number of different places like CNET, Entertainment Weekly and Martha Stewart. Whether you want the latest news headlines or popular entertainment videos, there should be something here to enjoy. There are 14 channels to plow through including autos, business, style, health, travel, video games and more, as well as original content from AOL itself.

My Baby Today (Free)

This new-ish app from BabyCenter has been trending on Google Play this week, and its a great offering for brand new parents. The app offers all manner of features including help, support, advice, reminders and plenty of fun along the way. Theres a personalized daily calendar of your babys development, a photo album to help you track your infants growth, information on baby safety and health, suggested activities and advice on care and feeding. For free, theres plenty here that will be useful.

TomTom U.S. & Canada ($49.99)

While that price is certainly steep considering Googles already very good bundled maps and navigation service thats built within Android, TomTom now offers all the features of its standalone GPS navigation hardware/software within a single app, and you get free map and POI updates for life. You can choose the quickest route or use the advanced lane guidance feature to avoid tricky intersections. The app does require 2.3GB of storage space and isnt yet compatible with a number of newer devices. If TomTom wants their app to take off, theyre really going to have to fix that!
