[The Android Police Week In Review] The Biggest Android Stories Of The Week (11/4/12 - 11/11/12)
Welcome to the Android Police Week In Review - your source for the biggest Android stories of the week. Don't forget, you can catch a lot of these stories (and more) on our weekly podcast.
Features
- Eric discusses the last 5 years of Android, and manages to do so without using the word "patent" once. Shocking.
Product Reviews
- Cameron reviewed about the Nexus 10, and Ron reviewed about the Nexus 4. You should read both of these things.
- Xperia TX: It's a great phone ... as long as you ignore pretty much every other phone that's come out in the last 6 months.
- Phorus PS1 multi-room Wi-Fi speakers for Android - not as good as they sound (which is pretty good).
- SuperTooth Disco 2: yes, it's a silly name, but there's nothing silly about this little speaker.
- Xperia Miro review.
Carrier 411
- Sprint bought some spectrum from US Cellular, expected to be ready for use by 2073.
- AT&T says it's investing $8 billion into its wireless network, presumably to finally make FaceTime over cellular work.
- Meanwhile, Verizon's like "LTE? Yeah, we're almost, you know, done with that."
Rumor Roundup
- DROID DNA: 5" of eye-melting 1080p - only on Verizon. Come cringe in unison with us on November 13th.
- The Sony Yuga: the first phone with a name that reminds you of an eastern European carmaker that every American associates with horrible, awful build quality. What could possibly go wrong? (Yes, I know it's a codename.)
- Microsoft Office Mobile is coming to Android, your spreadsheets will never be the same.
Android at Arms
- Apple fixed its apology... and put it at the bottom of the page.
- Apple-Samsung lawsuit filing 232895389 that people manage to blow way out of proportion.
- Apple patented a rectangle, so you can continue making that joke that hasn't been unfunny, unclever, and annoying since moments after it was first uttered.
- Apple and HTC have called a truce, said an HTC spokesperson "It just made Sense."
Code Google
- Google accidentally the Google Wallet physical card.
- The Xperia S is no longer an "experimental AOSP" device. Alright everybody, you can go back to being annoyed with Sony.
- Google made the app picker less infuriating in Android 4.2, just remember: rule 2.
The Hotsheet
- The Samsung Galaxy Express will officially be available for your "meh"-ing on November 16th for just $100.
- Buy a Nexus 7 before the price drops happened? Google will take pity on your soul.
- Humble Bundle for Android 4 is out, go throw your money at charity for some awesome games.
- Oh look, another LTE tablet that's way too old and costs way too much money!
- In Q3, Samsung sold 18 million Galaxy S III's, and that's... not very exciting at all, actually.
- Device Updates: Xperia TX/T/TL, Galaxy Note II (Sprint), Note 10.1 (Germany), RAZR M, Transformer Pad Infinity (TF700T), Optimus G (Sprint), Photon Q.
App Roundups
- Six best games from October 2012.
- Top Android apps every rooted user should know about, part six (apps 42-49).
- 35 Best New Android Games From The Last Two Weeks (10/24/12 - 11/6/12)
App Updates
- Angry Birds Star Wars: because Jar Jar wasn't enough. And Eric reviewed it, so you should probably go read that just for the film references.
- Shadowgun: DeadZone is more fun than a barrel of monkeys. Monkeys with guns. And it's coming soon. But seriously - they should add some monkeys to the game.
