New Android apps worth downloading: Etsy, Gmail update, Yesterday

The Etsy shopping experience is now available to Android devices, and with it the ability to interact with other users of the craft selling site. Gmail is next with a big update that adds lots of features for Android 4.0, followed by Yesterday, a point-and-click adventure game with an adult story about a serial killer.

Whats it about? The official Android app of the craft buying and selling website, Etsy makes it easy to purchase things you find on the site.

Whats cool? Etsy is mostly geared toward the buyer experience for the website, which allows you to search through thousands of products, often found or created by hand by their sellers. You can purchase items through the app, as well as leave comments and answer messages sent from sellers and other users. The app includes some social capabilities to connect with other Etsy users as well. If the iPhone version of the Etsy app is any indication, expect more tools for sellers in the future, too.

Whos it for? Etsy users and people who like hand-made items will get a kick out of the mobile app; its especially useful with the holidays approaching.

Gmail update (Free)

Whats it about? Googles popular email client is available on Android with most of the bells and whistles, with the apps latest update cramming in even more features.

Whats cool? Gmail continues to be one of the more powerful and reliable email clients on the web, and its Android app is a handy extension of the online experience that includes a lot of the most notable features. Googles update optimizes the app for Andorid 4.0 that adds the ability to swipe to delete or archive messages, support for attaching photos and videos to emails, auto-fitting to make messages fill your screen and larger photo previews.

Whos it for? Gmail users, theres no reason not to use the mobile app version of the great web-based email client.

Whats it like? If you prefer another service, both Hotmail and Yahoo! Mail have Android apps of their own.

Yesterday (Free)

Whats it about? A point-and-click adventure title, Yesterday tells the story of a serial killer who targets the homeless in New York.

Whats cool? Yesterday pairs an interesting, comic book-like art style with a story about killers and suspense. The game features three playable characters with whom players will interact through the course of the story, and Yesterday has been specifically designed to take advantage of tablets and touch-based gameplay. Its noir story is filled with movie references and other popular tropes from the thriller genre, so fans should feel right at home.

Whos it for? Adventure game fans will enjoy this one, as will anyone who appreciates a dark, suspenseful story.

Whats it like? Broken Sword is another great adventure title for Android, as is Machinarium.
