[New App] Amazon Finally Releases Instant Video App... For Google TV

Remember Google TV? You know, the Google-developed set top box running an Android variant that never managed to catch on? Well, if you're one of the small but dedicated users of the most neglected streaming device around, there's reason to celebrate: Amazon's Instant Video app, previously "exclusive" to the Kindle Fire, iPad, Roku, TiVo, Blu-ray players, various connected TVs, and just about everything except standard Android devices, is available on Google Play from your Google TV. Except for the Logitech Revue. Because apparently, Amazon hates you.

On its own merits, the Amazon Instant Video app looks pretty good: quick browsing through Amazon's library, HD playback, support for free Amazon Prime video, the works. It looks pretty similar to the apps on the Kindle Fire and Kindle Fire HD, which is part of why it's so annoying that there's no way to actually watch Amazon video on your Android device short of using Flash in the browser (which simply isn't an option for most 4.1 and 4.2 users).

If I may tangent into a bit of a personal rant: come on, Amazon! You let everyone else join the Instant Video party! You let Android users have access to Kindle books, Amazon MP3, even your walled garden app store. I could understand why the Fire series had an exclusive on video, but then you gave it to iOS users, erasing any kind of competitive advantage. I've got hundreds of dollars' worth of legally-purchased episodes on Amazon, and thousands of hours worth of Prime content that I can only access with a full-sized machine. Release Amazon Video for Android already. I can't be the only one who hates to see this:

By the way, Amazon's own support page lists the Logitech Revue. We're not sure what kind of wires are being crossed here.
